Apple occasionally sends firmware updates for accessories that contain bug fixes and improvements. This also applies to the MagSafe charger. Below I'll show you how to check the firmware version.
Both the MagSafe and MagSafe Duo chargers have their own firmware, which Apple updates when necessary. Of course, you can also easily check the firmware version. I'll show you how to do that below. There's also an advantage to all of this: If you follow these steps for your Apple MagSafe or Apple MagSafe Duo charger, you'll know that it's a genuine Apple product and not a cheap imitation that could potentially damage your iPhone. Be that as it may, you can also use the method below to check the model number, which can be important if the device needs to be replaced by Apple.
How to check the firmware version of your MagSafe charger
- Place your iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 on the Apple MagSafe charger so that it magnetically attaches and charging begins (if your device is locked, you should see the charging animation on the screen. If it's unlocked, check the battery icon in the top corner of the screen to make sure the charging icon is displayed).
- Now open the Settings app on your iOS device and then tap on “General” and navigate to the “About” section.
- Scroll down and tap “Apple MagSafe Charger.”
- Check the information next to the Firmware Version and Model Number entries.
If you don't see the MagSafe Charger menu in the About section of the Settings app, it's quite possible that your Apple MagSafe Charger or Duo version is a fake. In this case, you should stop using it and request a refund from the retailer. Don't have a MagSafe Charger yet? Then check out Amazon - there you will find both models discounted.
