With iOS 18, it's finally possible to change the colors and theme of your iPhone apps. Below, you'll learn step-by-step how to use these new customization features.
Apple has continuously worked to provide more customization options to its users. This trend started with widgets in iOS 14, and iOS 18 takes it to a new level. Now you can customize the colors and design of your apps to your liking.
Change colors and theme
Follow these steps to change the colors and design of your apps:
- Customize your home screen: Press and hold an empty area on the home screen.
- Edit: Tap Edit in the top left corner.
- Customize: Select “Customize”.
- Choose mode: Choose between Auto, Dark, Light and Tinted.
- Automatic: Changes the theme depending on the time of day.
- Dark and Light: Switch between dark and light symbols.
- Tinted: Adjust the colors of all apps to a uniform color.
- Customize app icons: Choose between small (default) and large app icons. Note that choosing large icons will remove the app titles.
Important instructions
- In the beta version, you can only apply the color change to all apps, not to individual ones.
Examples of adaptation
Examples of what your iPhone apps could look like after customization:
- Dark color: All apps in a dark design.
- Dark color with large icons: Dark theme with larger app icons.
- Green tinted theme: All apps have a green tint.
Use color tools
If you want to use a specific color from your wallpaper, tap the eyedropper above “Tinted” in the Adjust menu to perfectly match the colors to your wallpaper.
