In iOS 14.5, Apple added a new Apple Music feature that allows subscribers to the streaming service to share song lyrics as text and audio clips with the lyrics sung. We've taken a closer look at the whole thing below.
Apple Music offers Many songs include real-time lyrics that users can sing along to as the song plays, but these can also be used to jump to a specific part in the song. With iOS 14.5, users can now share song lyrics with a friend or a wider circle of people via social media, including Instagram Stories. In some cases, the feature also lets users share song clips. For example, if you choose to share via iMessage, an Apple Music card will appear in the conversation, allowing the recipient to play that specific passage of the song in iMessage using a play button.
Apple Music: How to share lyrics and song clips
The following steps will walk you through the process of sharing lyrics in Apple Music.
- In the Apple Music app, select a song to play and expand the now playing menu to fill the entire screen.
- Now tap the lyrics button in the bottom left corner of the screen. If it's grayed out, Apple Music doesn't have lyrics for the currently playing song and you won't be able to share it.
- When the lyrics are displayed on the screen in real time, press and hold on one of the words. Note: This means that the action menu or sharesheet menu is displayed by tapping on each line of lyrics you want to share.
- To deselect a highlighted lyric, just tap it again. Please note that Apple applies a character limit, which means that on average you can share between four and six lines, depending on the song.
- Now choose a sharing method from the two rows of options, such as iMessage or Instagram. You can also share a clip of the song using the "Share Song..." action.
As mentioned above, the feature is not supported by every song. The prerequisite for this is that lyrics are activated. If these are not present in a song, the feature cannot be used - have fun with it. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
