For the first time, users who want to test the HomePod software beta can do so through the public Apple Beta Software Program.
Apple has previously offered a preview version of the HomePod software to beta testers, but only as part of a program called AppleSeed, to which only invited people had access. Now anyone can through the public beta software program by Apple to test the software. HomePod software version 16 is included in the public betas for iOS 16, macOS Ventura, and the rest. It is only available for the HomePod mini, meaning AppleSeed testers are the only ones who have access to a pre-release version of the software for Apple's original HomePod. The testers can provide feedback using Apple's Feedback Assistant app. Apple also asks users to enable data analytics sharing for the HomePod by navigating to Settings -> General -> Privacy -> Share Apple TV Analytics.
HomePod Software 16: How to install the beta on your Siri speaker
- Your iPhone or iPad must be running iOS 16 Public Beta or iPadOS 16 Public Beta.
- On a device running iOS 16 or iPadOS 16, go to the Home app -> Home Settings -> Software Update -> HomePod Beta Updates and enroll the HomePod mini you want to use in the beta program.
- Your HomePod mini will automatically receive the latest public beta software if "Update automatically" is enabled in your software update settings. To manually check for updates, go to the Home app -> Home Settings -> Software Update.
Enabling betas may cause problems running apps or software on HomePod, so you should do so at your own risk. HomePod doesn't have critical user data like a Mac or iPhone, but some beta bugs could render the smart speaker unusable. Looking for new accessories?
