Filling out and signing PDF forms is an integral part of our daily lives. With the latest updates to iOS and iPadOS, it's easier than ever to complete these tasks right on your iPhone or iPad. Here's how to fill out and sign PDF forms quickly and efficiently, without having to resort to third-party apps.
Digital forms are everywhere these days, but often you don't have a Mac handy to edit them. Thankfully, iPhone and iPad offer powerful tools to handle this paperwork on the go. Whether you fill out forms regularly or just need an occasional signature, this guide will show you how to work effectively with the built-in features of iOS and iPadOS.
Preparation: Use contact information
Before you start, make sure all your contact information is up to date. This information can be automatically inserted into forms and will save you a lot of time. To do this, go to the Contacts app and update the "My Card" entry with your most recent information, such as name, date of birth, address and phone number.
filling out PDF forms
- Open the form: Receive a PDF form via email or download and open it directly on your iPhone or iPad. The document will automatically appear in the markup window.
- Fill out form fields: Tap the fields you want, like "Last Name" or "Address." You can either copy the information from your contact card or enter it manually. Look for the little icon with three dots and a pencil if you can't fill in the data automatically.
- Other people's information: If you're filling out a form on behalf of a friend or family member, add their information to your contacts first. Then tap Select Others to add their information to the form.
- Form navigation: Sometimes you may need to scroll through the document or go to other pages to fill in all the fields. Once all the information is entered, click "Done" in the top right corner unless a signature is required.
Signing PDF forms
- Create a signature: Open the PDF form and tap the plus sign in the bottom right corner of the screen. Choose "Add Signature" from the options. Create your signature using your finger, a stylus, or an Apple Pencil.
- Save signature: You can save the signature with a label such as "Legal Name" and use it for future documents. It is also possible to save multiple signatures.
- Insert signature: Position the signature where you want it in the document and adjust the size if necessary. Click Done to save the signature and update the document.
- Save and send document: After you have filled in all the fields and added the signature, save the document. It can now be sent via email or SMS, with a copy saved for later use.
