The Apple Watch receives a practical functional improvement with watchOS 8.5 in conjunction with tvOS 15.4. Below you will learn how to authorize Apple TV purchases with the Apple Watch.
watchOS 8.5 doesn't bring as many changes as iOS 15.4. New features include new emoji and the ability to wirelessly restore the wearable to the iPhone. Apple has also made a change that will prove valuable to Apple TV users. A seamless double-tap is now the standard for authorizing Apple TV purchases on the Apple Watch, which was previously only possible with iPhone and iPad.
How to authorize Apple TV purchases on Apple Watch
- Make sure your Apple TV is running tvOS 15.4 and your Apple Watch is running watchOS 8.5 or later.
- Check if a password is required for purchases on Apple TV: Settings -> Users & Accounts -> Choose your account -> Required password -> Purchases -> Always or after 15 minutes.
- From now on, when you click the purchase button for content on Apple TV, authorization will be done by double-clicking the side button on your Apple Watch (or iPhone or iPad) by default.
- You don't even have to click the "Verify with Apple device" button on Apple TV; the prompt on your next Apple device will appear automatically after you click "Buy."
- If you're not wearing your watch and don't have your iPhone/iPad nearby, you can swipe down on Apple TV and select "Verify with Passcode" to enter it manually.
The extension of the function to the Apple Watch will certainly please some users. By the way, authorization on the Apple Watch or iPhone works for one-time purchases and subscriptions in the iTunes Store, in the Apple TV+ app and in third-party apps on tvOS.
