With the AirPods Pro 2, Apple has improved the charging case and added a U1 chip for precision searching with Find My. Below I'll show you how to find your AirPods Pro 2 if you misplace or lose them.
Find My uses Bluetooth signals from lost AirPods to transmit their location back to you. In addition to Bluetooth, however, the second-generation AirPods Pro charging case also features a U1 chip. On iPhones that also feature a U1 chip, there's a feature called Precise Find that lets you determine the distance and direction of your AirPods when they're in range more accurately than Bluetooth alone. If you're trying to find lost AirPods Pro 2 and have an iPhone 11 or later, Precise Find uses the camera, accelerometer, and gyroscope to show you the exact location of your AirPods and give you clues using sound, haptics, and visual feedback.
AirPods Pro 2: How to use Precise Search
- Once your AirPods are connected, open Settings and tap the AirPods section just below your Apple ID, scroll down, then tap Show in Finder. If you misplaced your AirPods Pro 2 along with the case, launch the Find My app and select your AirPods from the Devices list.
- Tap Search. It should say "Nearby" below if the precision search feature is available.
- Now move around to find your AirPods and follow the on-screen instructions. You should see an arrow pointing in the direction of the AirPods, an approximate distance indicator telling you how far away they are, and a hint if they are on a different floor.
As you get closer to the AirPods, you'll get haptic feedback from your phone and audible cues that you're getting close to an object. The AirPods graphic on the iPhone will also change as you get closer to the object.

Precision Find will end when you have successfully located your AirPods and your iPhone is in close proximity. Note that ultra-wideband is not supported everywhere in the world and precision find may not work in some countries. But remember that the AirPods Pro 2 charging case has a built-in speaker, so you can also use Find My to play a sound to help locate it. Looking for new accessories?
