In December, reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the fate of the iPhone SE 4 was in limbo. At the time, he said the device could be canceled entirely or delayed until 2024. Now Kuo reports that Apple has resumed development of the iPhone SE 4. It will be the first iPhone with Apple's own 5G modem.
In a series of Twitter posts explained Kuo today said Apple has "revived" the iPhone SE 4 after it was shelved in late 2022. According to Kuo, the iPhone SE 4 is a "minor modification of the 6.1-inch iPhone 14." According to Kuo, the iPhone SE 4 will have an OLED display instead of an LCD screen, which is the "biggest change" in Apple's plans for the device. It will also be the first iPhone to use Apple's in-house 5G baseband chip, replacing Qualcomm's modems. However, the device will not support ultra-fast mmWave 5G.
When will Apple introduce the iPhone SE 4?
The new iPhone SE 4 will feature Apple's 5G baseband chip, which will be manufactured using a 4nm process (similar to 5nm) and, as currently planned, will only support sub-6GHz. According to my latest research, Apple recently relaunched the iPhone SE 4, the biggest change to which will be an OLED display instead of an LCD. Overall, the SE 4 is a minor change from the 6.1-inch iPhone 14.
Kuo continues:
Apple's orders from Qualcomm will drop significantly in the foreseeable future. The reason for this is that Apple is switching to its own 5G chips and no longer relying on Qualcomm for this component of the device.
There is no timetable for the launch of the iPhone SE 4. However, it seems that it will not be available until 2024 at the earliest. (Image: Ian Zelebo x Jon Prosser)
