Apple's upcoming mixed reality headset is expected to offer a wealth of features that other headsets don't have. Apple's VR and AR headset is expected to be unveiled at WWDC in June. While speculation so far has mostly revolved around the hardware capabilities, the list of features and functions seems to be just as extensive.
In his “Power On” newsletter for Bloomberg on Sunday, Mark Gurman has further Information on about Apple's next big product, the Apple AR/VR headset. The headset will be able to run most of Apple's existing iPad apps in mixed reality, including Books, Camera, Contacts, FaceTime, Files, Freeform, Home, Mail, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Safari, Stocks, TV, and Weather. A new Wellness app will focus on meditation, with immersive graphics and soothing sounds. A VR-focused Fitness+ app for working out with the headset will be included. Developers will also be able to run "hundreds of thousands" of current third-party iPad apps from the App Store, with minimal customization required.
Apple's AR/VR headset: The many features make it a game changer
However, Apple will unveil a software development kit and a Mac-based headset simulator to help developers create new apps and services for xrOS, the presumed name of the headset's operating system. The headset will set up video conferences and meeting rooms with realistic avatars to make users feel like they're interacting in the same room. Freeform will also get new collaboration tools. A big focus will be on gaming, with "high-profile titles" from third-party developers. On the video side, users will be able to watch media while immersed in a virtual environment. A new portal will allow users to watch sports in virtual reality to boost live game streaming.
The operation is carried out via various methods
The headset can also be used as an external monitor for a connected Mac, similar to Meta's Horizon Workrooms. The headset can be operated using a variety of methods, including eye tracking, hand gestures, and Siri. Other peripherals such as a keyboard can be connected, or control via other Apple devices such as an iPhone will be possible. With these features, the Apple AR/VR headset is expected to delight many users. We are excited to see the unveiling at WWDC and look forward to hearing more details. (Photo by peshkov / Bigstockphoto)
