The next generation of Apple's 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air models will feature an M3 chip, it is now reported. In addition, it is claimed that Apple is also planning an updated version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 chip.
The unannounced M3 chip is reported to US blog 9to5Mac according to like the M2 chip, will be equipped with an 8-core CPU. However, the chip is expected to be manufactured on TSMC's latest 3nm process to further improve performance and power efficiency. The M2 chip and its higher-end Pro and Max variants will be manufactured using TSMC's second-generation 5nm process. The report leaves open when the MacBook trio will be announced, but speculates that WWDC 2023 in June would be an ideal time for Apple to announce the M3 chip and the first Macs with that chip. Last year, Apple unveiled the current MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 chip at WWDC 2022.
Conflicting reports: When will Apple introduce the new MacBook Air models?
On Sunday, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said it was "plausible" that at least the new 13-inch MacBook Air would feature the M3 chip. He said Apple would likely launch both the 13-inch and 15-inch models "between late spring and summer." There are conflicting reports about whether the new MacBook Airs will feature the M2 or M3 chip and when they will launch. Just a few hours ago, analyst Ross Young reiterated his expectation that the 15-inch MacBook Air will launch in April. (Image: Apple)
