Bloomberg journalists Mark Gurman and Debby Wu reported last year that Apple was testing a new iPad Pro with a glass back for wireless charging. Gurman said the device could be unveiled in 2022.
The new iPad Pro could still be charged wirelessly, but will not have a full glass back, as was originally reported. 9to5mac now claims this from an internal source experience According to the latest report, Apple scrapped the glass back design after testing due to concerns about breakage. Citing sources familiar with Apple's design plans, the report claims that Apple has developed prototypes of the iPad Pro with a larger glass Apple logo that would still allow wireless charging.
New iPad Pro to support wireless charging
One of the prototypes is said to feature MagSafe with stronger magnets than the iPhone to prevent accidental damage. It is also said to support faster wireless charging speeds than MagSafe on the iPhone. Of course, since Apple prototypes various products internally, there is no guarantee that the iPad Pro with a glass Apple logo will ever come to market. But the rumors seem to agree that the next iPad Pro will have some sort of new design to enable wireless charging. However, a more precise release date for the device beyond the 2022 timeframe remains unclear. (Image: Apple)
