Apple will not launch a new Mac mini before 2023. This is what renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims, revising an earlier forecast he made before Apple's spring event.
Last weekend, Kuo had presented his predictions for Apple's Mac lineup in 2022 and 2023, claiming that Apple will launch a new high-end Mac mini and a 27-inch external display without mini-LED in 2022, while a Mac Pro and iMac Pro with Apple Silicon will not launch until 2023. Today, however, Kuo has retracted his original tweet updated and stresses that he now expects Apple to introduce all of these products next year at the earliest. Currently, the M1 Mac mini is sold alongside older high-end models that continue to feature Intel chips. With the updated model, Apple could introduce M2 and M2 Pro chips.
New high-end Mac Mini in a new design
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman tweeted Tuesday that Apple has M2 versions of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 24-inch iMac, and Mac mini in development. The M2 chip is expected to have the same 8-core CPU with improved speed and efficiency, as well as a 9- or 10-core GPU (instead of 7 or 8 cores in the M1). We don't know anything specific about the M2 Pro yet, but it could come with a 12-core CPU. The current M1 Pro chip has a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU, so the GPU could be bumped up as well. Testing for the M2 is already underway, as evidenced by references to the chip in the latest macOS Monterey beta. Previous rumors suggested that a future Mac mini could get a new design with a smaller chassis, a plexiglass-like top, and two-tone color options. (Photo by C. Nass / Bigstockphoto)
