According to a new report, the next generation of Apple Watch will consist of three models. At the same time, the update could now definitely retire the Apple Watch Series 3.
The Apple Watch Series 8 generation is expected to bring some design changes and may include more than just one model launching in 2022. In the latest edition of its Power On newsletter reported Mark Gurman, according to which three different models are to be expected:
- Apple Watch Series 8
- An updated Apple Watch SE
- An "Apple Watch for Extreme Sports"
According to Gurman, 2022 will be the "biggest year in Apple Watch history since the first model." The idea of launching three models has been raised before in rumors and speculation, such as in Ming-Chi Kuo's letter to investors.
Apple Watch Series 3 could be retired
In terms of features, Gurman doesn't expect "any major new health sensors" for 2022, except for sensors for body temperature. However, he says the models will feature faster chips and that there will be "major updates to activity measurement." In addition to expanding the Apple Watch lineup, Gurman also believes the Apple Watch Series 3 "might finally be retired." No reason for the discontinuation is given. Apple currently sells the Apple Watch Series 3 as an introductory model alongside the Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch SE. It's conceivable that Apple will stop offering the Series 3 and "push" new customers to buy the SE model as an entry-level device. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
