Apple could introduce a new 30-watt power supply with a new design this year, an analyst now claims.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has tweeted in a new claimedthat Apple is working on a new 30-watt power adapter. The charger will use "GaN" technology, which allows for smaller, lighter and more energy-efficient chargers than silicon-based chargers. The new 30-watt power adapter would likely be a smaller and lighter version of the existing 30-watt USB-C power adapter that comes with the current MacBook Air.
When will Apple introduce the new 30-watt power adapter?
Apple introduced its first GaN power adapter last year with the 140W USB-C power adapter for the redesigned 16-inch MacBook Pro. Many third-party manufacturers such as Anker and Belkin have launched GaN-based chargers for use with Apple products in recent years. Kuo left it open whether the accessories will debut at the "Peek Performance" event.
