According to a report, Apple's next Apple TV model will use the A14 chip and be more gaming-friendly, while a new HomePod could use the same chip as the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8.
Apple has been relatively quiet about the Apple TV at WWDC, but the company is still planning updates to the streaming set-top box as part of its home entertainment updates. For the next model, Apple may plan to build more power into the device. Loud According to Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple's next Apple TV is codenamed J255 and is currently being developed with the A14 chip. Not only is it an upgrade from the A12 used in the 2021 model, it also includes an additional gigabyte of memory.
New Apple TV & HomePod: When will the devices be released?
Gurman explains that the new model will be useful for the "additional gaming features" in tvOS 16. In addition to the Apple TV, a new HomePod is also set to be released, says Gurman. The new smart speaker will use the S8 chip that will also power the Apple Watch Series 8. The model will be more similar to the original HomePod in terms of size and performance and will have an updated display with "multi-touch functionality" on the top. In terms of the market launch, Gurman explains that both devices will probably not be released until next year. (Photo by Unsplash / Matt Birchler)
