New Apple iPad models equipped with OLED displays and scheduled for release in 2023 could boost the tablet market to more than $1 billion, according to a display analysis.
Rumors of an iPad with an OLED display keep cropping up. Apple already updated the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display in May 2021. An OLED addition would mean another change in display technology in less than three years. Loud Display Supply Chain Consultants expects Apple to introduce an OLED iPad in 2023. The report claims that Apple's use of OLED will boost the tablet market to more than $1 billion by 2024. According to the report, OLED tablets will achieve 57 percent year-on-year revenue growth in 2023, the highest growth during the forecast period. This means that Apple's entry into the OLED tablet market is likely to dominate revenue in this segment.
Apple and OLED technology: supply chain analysts can be wrong
In the first quarter of 2021, Apple had a 26 percent share of OLED smartphone shipments, followed by Samsung with a 20 percent share. The use of OLED in smartphones remains the number one application of the technology, with smartwatches coming in second. Touch Bars are the third most important application for OLED. But tablets will overtake them, at least when Apple releases the OLED iPad. In addition, the analysts suggest that Apple will eliminate the Touch Bar in the future. This statement is in line with previous reports. Still, remain skeptical. Supply chain analysts try to understand the company's future plans by analyzing component orders and other numbers. These analyses can often be wrong when it comes to predicting Apple's future moves, as Apple's supply chain is huge and difficult to track. (Photo by Unsplash / Daniel Romero)
