Taiwanese supplier ASE Technology has started producing optical sensors for the next generation of AirPods. The market launch is now expected in the third quarter.
The Taiwanese news site DigiTimes has once again published a paid article published, which focuses on the new AirPods. According to this, the market launch is expected in the third quarter. This statement is consistent with a previously published forecast by Ming-Chi Kuo. As a reminder: The third quarter includes the months of July, August and September. The reason for the later presentation is said to be the fact that mass production of the new plugs will not start until the third quarter. However, no specific date was given. Kuo previously stated that the third generation of AirPods would be released in the first half of 2021.
AirPods 3 get new design
A series of leaked images have already revealed the design of the new earphones. Originally, the launch was expected in March. Various sources have already claimed that the third generation AirPods will have a similar design to the Pro version, including shorter stems. However, these will not come with silicone ear tips or active noise cancellation. For this reason, it can be assumed that the new earbuds will be priced in line with the second generation. The inexpensive AirPods were last updated in March 2019. So an update is almost certain to appear this year. (Image via 52audio)
