Bloomberg recently reported that Apple is considering launching an all-new 12-inch notebook in late 2023 or early 2024. Mark Gurman explained that it was unclear whether the 12-inch model would be a low-end MacBook or a higher-end MacBook Pro.
Twitter user "Majin Bu" has since claimed that the model will be a new 12-inch MacBook Pro that could feature Apple's M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. Gurman said that the M2 Max in the MacBook Pro will come with a 12-core CPU and up to 38-core GPU while the M1 Max maxes out at a 10-core CPU and 32-core GPU.
Will Apple introduce a smaller MacBook Pro?
Apple has historically offered both low-end and high-end 12-inch notebooks. At the low end, Apple introduced an ultra-thin 12-inch MacBook in 2015 that weighed just two pounds, but the notebook was discontinued in 2019. At the high end, Apple offered a 12-inch PowerBook G4 in the mid-2000s, which came before the MacBook Pro. In any case, Apple's silicon chips deliver impressive performance per watt and paved the way for Apple to launch ultraportable, high-performance MacBooks without the thermal limitations of the Intel processors the company has used for the past decade and a half.
