Rumors about a completely redesigned MacBook Air, which is due to be released next year, have been circulating for some time. Now the well-informed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has spoken out.
Kuo has now returned to the topic of MacBook Air 2022 in a new letter to investors, explaining that the next MacBook Air will have a 13.3-inch mini-LED display. As a reminder, the current device uses a Retina display with standard LED backlighting. Thanks to local dimming, the mini-LED technology will deliver a significantly higher contrast ratio, deeper blacks and higher peak brightness compared to previous models. Apple added mini-LED technology to its product range with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which was introduced in April.
MacBook Air could debut in mid-2022
The display, called Liquid Retina XDR, has a backlight made up of more than 10,000 mini-LEDs grouped into 2,596 local dimming zones. The result is an LCD display with a contrast ratio that rivals that of OLED. Rumors are currently circulating that the new MacBook Pro range and the upcoming iPad mini 6 will also use the new display technology. Concerning the MacBook Air, Kuo concluded by saying that Sunrex will soon join Apple's supply chain to supply light guides for MacBook Air scissor keyboards. The analyst believes that Apple will introduce a MacBook Air equipped with mini-LEDs in mid-2022. (Photo by insidestudio / Bigstockphoto)
