As expected, Apple has introduced a new entry-level device. It is called the iPhone Xr and also has the notch. This means that Touch ID on iPhones is finally a thing of the past.
The two OLED iPhones are already on the market. But the iPhone Xr seems to be the quiet favorite. The colorful LCD device will not be available until the end of October. Production difficulties are said to be the reason for the one-month delay. The iPhone Xr has a 6.1" screen - this is not OLED but an almost frameless LCD with a notch. The complex design of this display is said to be one of the reasons for the delay. The backlight in the area of the notch is said to be particularly problematic.
There were repeated errors during production, which is why the actual production volume could not be reached immediately. According to Digitimes, Apple has redistributed the production orders for suppliers. Initially, 50 - 60 percent went to Pegatron. Due to the high error rate, Apple took around 30 percent from the manufacturer. The majority of the orders will now go to Foxconn. Production of the iPhone Xr is now expected to be stable. The new iPhone Xr can officially be pre-ordered from October 19th. Delivery will begin on October 26th.
