According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple's possible switch to USB-C will not only affect the iPhone but other accessories will also be converted.
Just recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple plans to abandon the Lightning port for the iPhone starting in 2023 and switch to a USB-C port instead. In a follow-up tweet, the analyst now suggests that other accessories that rely on the Lightning port will also switch ports quite quickly.
Apple is having trouble realizing a portless iPhone
Kuo begins by saying that the alternative, an iPhone without ports, would be difficult for Apple to realize, "due to the current limitations of wireless technologies and the immature MagSafe system."
- The portless iPhone could cause more problems due to the current limitations of wireless technologies and the immature MagSafe ecosystem.
- Other products with a Lightning connector (e.g. AirPods, Magic Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse, MagSafe Battery) would also switch to USB-C in the foreseeable future.
Therefore Kuo expect that accessories for iPhones and iPads that still use Lightning will adapt their connectors to the new iPhone connector. Apple has already begun the transition from Lightning, starting with the iPad Pro line. Report According to reports, the company is also testing USB-C adapters and a USB-C iPhone, partly due to an EU regulation on chargers. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
