This week started with rumors and seems to be ending with rumors too - at least that's what it looks like so far. Now there are new reports about iPhone models in 2020 and 2021 - there is even talk of an "iPhone SE 2 Plus".
We haven't had such a rumor-filled week in a long time - towards the end of the year, reports about future iPhone models are increasing again. Today, the well-known TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo published a forecast that shows Apple's plans for the iPhone lineup for 2020 and 2021. Let's get started!
iPhone models 2020
According to Kuo's forecast, we can expect four iPhone devices with 5G support in 2020 - this is said to be the iPhone 12 lineup. Apple is also planning to introduce a new version of the iPhone SE - possibly the iPhone SE 2. 5G support will be one of the most important upgrades in the coming year - according to the analyst. To be precise, he predicts that all "iPhone 12 models" in autumn 2020 will be equipped with the Qualcomm X55 modem, which have a 5G connection - adapted to the individual countries. In addition to 5G support, the iPhone 2020 will appear with a 3D camera. The topic of Touch ID under the entire display should also remain current. A technology would be installed here that allows an acoustic fingerprint - corresponding patents already exist - see below.
iPhone 12 in different sizes
Kuo reiterated once again that the iPhone 12 will be released in different sizes. Accordingly, it is expected that a 5.4-inch OLED device with dual camera, a 6.1-inch OLED iPhone with dual camera and a 6.1-inch OLED device with triple camera as well as a 6.7-inch OLED iPhone with triple camera and 3D function will be released. Accordingly, the 3D feature is only to be reserved for the largest model. In addition to the iPhone 12 lineup, an iPhone SE 2 is also planned. This will be released at the beginning of the year - according to Kuo. The device is to be similar to today's iPhone 8 but have significantly more power.
The year 2021 – iPhone 13 and iPhone SE 2 Plus
Kuo not only predicted 2020 today but also moved on to 2021. His expectations for the year after next are particularly interesting. According to him, he believes that Apple will present an iPhone SE 2 Plus in two sizes as early as spring 2021. The devices could measure 5.5 inches and 6.1 inches each. But that's not all - both models are to appear in a full-screen design with a small notch at the top - but not for Face ID. These iPhones will continue to be unlocked with Touch ID. The sensor is to be housed in the standby switch on the side. But in addition to the iPhone SE 2, the supposed iPhone 13 or iPhone 12 S was not left unmentioned. Here he claims to have learned about an important change. The iPhone 13 or iPhone 12 S could appear in 2021 without a charging socket at all. The device is said to rely entirely on wireless charging. However, he was unable to find out any more details about the model. The analyst is currently alone in making statements regarding 2021 – it remains to be seen whether other sources will comment on this. (Photo by tortoon / Bigstockphoto)
