A new supply chain report claims to have the answer to a particularly interesting question about the 2021 iPhones: What name will Apple choose for the upcoming lineup?
If the Economic Daily News is to be believed, Apple will indeed launch the new iPhone generation as the iPhone 13 and not the iPhone 12S. So far, not only we but also other platforms have chosen the term iPhone 13 when it comes to rumors surrounding the 2021 iPhone series. Of course, that doesn't mean anything. Interestingly, there were even reports a few months ago that Apple was internally referring to the devices as the 12S. Be that as it may, some have claimed that the potential innovations would make this year's devices an S model. Therefore, the new models should be launched as the 12S.
iPhone 13 mini is reportedly not manufactured by Foxconn
Others have said that Apple considers the number 13 to be unlucky and so skips the number or even foregoes the number altogether and simply uses the name iPhone with the year as an identifier, as the company does with Macs and iPads. But today's report claims otherwise, namely that the name is iPhone 13. It goes on to say that the primary iPhone assembler Foxconn will continue to receive the majority of orders, while Pegatron will manufacture the iPhone 13 mini. A second question is when will the 2021 iPhones go on sale? This has been easy to answer so far: From the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 8, each year's models were available in September. However, the process changed with the iPhone X.
iPhone 2021 series: Sales start still unclear
Since then, it has been unclear whether the availability of the individual models will be in September, October or November. Today's report suggests that the announcement will take place in September and that manufacturers will begin shipping in the third quarter. Since Apple has to stockpile the phones in order to get them ready for sale, there is only limited information about actual availability. So while the start of sales is still unclear, the launch of the devices is now said to be set - namely in September. The third week of September has already been mentioned. Whether this will actually end up being the case remains to be seen, of course. (Photo by leungchopan / Bigstockphoto)
