Rumors surrounding the iPhone 2021 series have already been documented sufficiently. Now an always-on display is being discussed again.
The iPhone 2021 – better known as the iPhone 12S – could possibly receive a major display upgrade. To be precise, the entire display technology is to be renewed. The always-on display, known from the Apple Watch, could be used – according to the well-known leaker Max Weinbach, via EverythingApplePro. What this means for users is that the lock screen will still display some important elements but will no longer necessarily be fully lit as is the case on current models. According to the statement, the clock and battery icons will apparently always be visible on the screen, even when the display is locked - regardless of the lighting state of the rest of the display.
iPhone 2021: Touch ID’s comeback
It goes on to say that notifications on the lock screen will be displayed "with a bar and icons," appearing normally on the display, although the entire screen will not light up. Both Weinbach and EverythingApplePro have a solid track record. Both denied rumors about ProMotion technology in the iPhone 12 last year. Several sources are currently claiming that Apple will use LTPO technology in the next iPhone generation. This is said to pave the way for 120Hz displays, as it is much more energy efficient. The always-on function was also considered. However, the new screen technology is said to be reserved for the Pro models. In addition to better displays, the comeback of Touch ID is also expected. The fingerprint sensor could be placed under the display - more on that below. (Photo by yalcin.sonat / Bigstockphoto)
