We have already read rumors several times that the iPhone 2021 could have Face ID and Touch ID under the display. Now there are new details.
Bloomberg has published a new report commenting on the iPhone 2021. According to the news site, Apple is not planning any major changes this year. According to the sources, the device is internally referred to as the iPhone 12S. But there could be one important innovation - the return of Touch ID.
iPhone 2021: Touch ID under the display could come
Apple isn't planning any major changes for this year's iPhone lineup, given the improvements to the smartphone in 2020, including 5G and new design. Within the company, engineers view the next iPhones as an "S" version of their predecessor.
But there could be a big innovation – Touch ID under the display. However, the implementation is not yet certain. is called it in the report:
While the changes will be minor overall, Apple is nonetheless testing a major upgrade for 2021: an under-display fingerprint sensor. This would add a new method for users to unlock their iPhone beyond a passcode and Face ID facial recognition. Apple began moving away from the fingerprint sensor in 2017 with the launch of the iPhone X, but Touch ID has remained as a feature in Mac laptops and cheaper iPhones since then. Qualcomm Inc., which supplies Apple with 5G modems, announced a faster under-display fingerprint sensor earlier this month.
What will happen to the Lightning port?
As mentioned above, we have read rumors of this kind several times. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo originally claimed in 2019 that Apple would introduce at least one iPhone with Face ID and Touch ID this year. The feature has since been suggested by some leakers. According to them, there is a chance that we will see at least one iPhone with two biometric authentication methods this year. But there could be a second important change - the charging port. Apple is said to be aiming to do away with the Lightning port. The devices would then only be dependent on MagSafe or other Qi charging stations. Interestingly, this rumor was also originally communicated by Ming-Chi Kuo first. Whether the whole thing will actually be implemented in 2021 remains to be seen. (Photo by New Africa / Bigstockphoto)
