Apple's main supplier for OLED panels is still Samsung. But that is about to change - there is apparently a potential successor.
According to a new report from the Nikkei Asian Review, Apple is said to be searching intensively for a new OLED supplier - this one is already expected to supply the iPhone 2020. However, there is not much choice, as many companies are not prepared to invest more in order to increase their production volume - according to the Japanese business newspaper. But there is said to be a potential Samsung replacement - BOE Technology. The report states that if the test phase is successful, Apple would purchase the OLED screens for the iPhone 2020 lineup from BOE as early as next year.
"Has already proven itself"
The decision is expected to be made by the end of 2019, according to Nikkei. A WitsView analyst believes that BOE Technology has a good chance due to the lack of competition. The company has also proven itself in the past, as it produces screens for MacBooks, iPads and devices from other manufacturers such as HP and Dell. The Japanese business newspaper Nikkei Asian Review has a good track record with Apple, which is why the report is receiving a lot of attention. In addition to a new display supplier, a design change is also expected in 2020 - more on that here.
