Every year, Apple introduces new features to the iPhone. Some are subtle, others make a real difference in everyday life. This year, a rumor is attracting attention that's especially interesting if you regularly record videos or share content on social media.
According to a report by the YouTube channel Front Page Tech, Apple could add a new recording feature to the iPhone 17 Pro. The camera app on the Pro models will support simultaneous recording with both the front and rear cameras. This so-called dual video recording is currently only available through third-party apps. In the future, it could be integrated directly into iOS – but exclusively for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
New feature planned for iOS 19
In a recent video, Front Page Tech not only showed possible renderings of iOS 19, but also revealed a new feature that Apple is allegedly planning for the iPhone 17 Pro. At Minute 9:13 The dual video recording feature is mentioned. According to this, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be able to record simultaneously with both cameras—the selfie camera and the main camera on the back. Jon Prosser, host of Front Page Tech, says this feature will be firmly integrated into the camera app. This distinguishes it from previous solutions like Snapchat or FiLMiC Pro, which only offer similar features via external apps. With the iPhone 17 Pro, recording would therefore be possible directly via the standard camera.
Why this is important
This feature is particularly interesting for content creators. If you regularly shoot videos for TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube, you can record your face while simultaneously showing something—such as an environment, an event, or a scene. Your viewers will then see both: your reaction and what you're referring to. This is especially useful for vlogs, tutorials, or commentary. Samsung has offered a similar feature since the Galaxy S21. There, too, the dual recording is built directly into the camera app. Apple is now apparently following suit, although—according to rumors—only for the Pro models.
Technical limitations?
Why Apple might limit the feature to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max remains unclear. Technically, it should be available on other models as well. It's conceivable that Apple is using it as an exclusive feature to boost sales of the Pro devices.
Release expected in September
As usual, Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone models in September. Then it will become clear which features will actually be included and whether dual video recording will truly be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro.
iPhone 17 Pro as a tool for modern video creators
The iPhone 17 Pro could be an interesting upgrade, especially for you as a video creator. The ability to film with both the front and rear cameras simultaneously saves time, eliminates the need for external apps, and offers more flexibility. Whether Apple will truly limit this feature to the Pro models remains to be seen. One thing is clear: With iOS 19 and the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple will once again try to differentiate itself from the competition – this time with a feature that is practical and directly applicable to everyday life for many users.
