Apple is working on the iPhone 17 series, and the rumor mill is running hot. One question in particular is causing controversy: Will the iPhone 17 Air support MagSafe? The iPhone 16e lacks this feature, which has raised doubts. A new report from Digital Chat Station on the Chinese platform Weibo now provides a clear answer. According to the report, all four models in the iPhone 17 series will be equipped with MagSafe.
MagSafe has been a key feature for wireless charging and magnetic accessories since the iPhone 12. Until now, it was only available on the more expensive models. The cheaper variants, like the iPhone 16e, had to do without it. Apple's plans to equip the iPhone 17 Air with MagSafe could change this strategy.
All iPhone 17 models are expected to receive MagSafe
The account Digital Chat Station has a good track record when it comes to Apple leaks. In a recent post, the account confirms that all iPhone 17 models will support MagSafe. This claim is based on dummy models recently published by Sonny Dickson. According to Digital Chat Station, the dummy models match internal information they have received. Particularly interesting is the statement that the entire series will be equipped with MagSafe. This would mean that Apple would equip not only the Pro models, but also the significantly thinner iPhone 17 Air with this technology. Until now, it was unclear whether Apple would adopt MagSafe for the iPhone 17 Air. The iPhone 16e does not have it, which is seen as a clear sign of a separation between premium and entry-level models (via Weibo).
What does this mean for users?
MagSafe technology brings several advantages that now appear to be available for all iPhone 17 models:
- Magnetic wireless charging: Magnets ensure more precise alignment on MagSafe chargers, preventing power loss and improving efficiency.
- Magnetic accessories: Wallets, stands or external batteries can be attached directly to the back.
- Faster charging times: MagSafe supports faster charging speeds than traditional wireless charging.
