The iPhone 16 has not yet been officially introduced, but initial leaks already provide a detailed insight into the camera system of the upcoming models. According to information from AppleInsider, there will be some interesting new features in both the standard and Pro versions. Here you can find out what you should know about the camera of the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
The camera is a central feature every year when a new iPhone is introduced. This will be no different with the iPhone 16. The latest leaks point to some exciting updates that should be of particular interest to photo and video fans. Let's take a look at the details that have been revealed so far.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus: Improvements to the dual camera
The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models will continue to be equipped with a dual camera system. The cameras are arranged vertically, similar to the iPhone X. While the main camera remains unchanged with an aperture of f/1.6, the aperture of the ultra-wide-angle lens has been improved from f/2.4 to f/2.2. This change should ensure better image quality in low light conditions. In addition, the ultra-wide-angle module will now also enable macro shots.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max: High-end camera system
The Pro models, i.e. the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, offer more features as usual. Both versions will be equipped with the tetraprism camera, which was first introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This system enables better optical zoom and improved telephotography. The main camera remains at an aperture of f/1.78 and a resolution of up to 48 MP. What's new is that the ultra-wide-angle camera now also works with 48 MP and offers an aperture of f/2.2, which further improves image quality.
image formats and capture button
All models in the iPhone 16 series will support the new JPEG-XL photo format, in addition to existing formats such as HEIF and ProRAW. For video recording, there will be the option to film in 3K at 120 fps or in 1080p at up to 240 fps. A capacitive capture button will also be introduced, allowing for faster triggering and more control when using it. It is also interesting that this button can be configured to launch a third-party app when pressed.
