According to a new report, the Pro models of the iPhone 15 series are expected to receive a fast Thunderbolt port as part of the switch to the USB-C port.
The iPhone has been able to record 4K videos for some time, but transferring the huge files requires a lot of patience. That could change if Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's predictions for the iPhone 15 come true. In a series of tweets claimed the analyst said his latest supply chain checks suggest the entire iPhone 15 lineup will switch to USB-C in some form. However, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as he calls it, will retain the USB 2.0 speeds used in the 2022 10.9-inch iPad - and the same as Lightning.
iPhone 15: The end of Lightning?
He also suspects that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have at least USB 3.2 at 20 gigabits per second and possibly Thunderbolt 3 at 40 gigabits per second. There have been repeated rumors in recent years that Apple will switch from Lightning to USB-C for an upcoming iPhone. The EU has finally mandated this for all smartphones from all manufacturers as soon as the iPhone 16 hits the market - that is, from 2024. If the rumors are true, a launch in 2023 would mean the end of the Lightning connector as Apple's primary charging cable - after 13 years. USB-C was introduced shortly after Lightning in 2012. However, Apple itself did not introduce it until the 12-inch MacBook in 2015. (Photo by yalcin.sonat / Bigstockphoto)
