A new photo has surfaced online that allegedly shows molds of Apple's upcoming iPhone 14 models, confirming some previous rumors.
Short note: Please note that the Weibo image molds shown were likely used for the production of third-party iPhone cases and not for the production of phones. Nevertheless, they seem to match the unconfirmed details we have read several times in recent months, especially regarding the dimensions of the devices. The first notable difference in the lineup is the lack of an iPhone mini model.
iPhone 14 series: End of the mini model
iPhone sizes are changing this year. To be precise, Apple is doing away with the 5.4-inch iPhone as it proved unpopular with customers. After the iPhone mini didn't sell well, Apple plans to offer its flagship devices in the following sizes this year: A 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 models are expected to look like the iPhone 13 models and have the same flat design. It is safe to assume that the size of the camera will change slightly on all models. According to the iPhone 14 Pro Max schematics shared by Max Weinbach, the camera bump on the high-end 2022 iPhone will be around 4.17mm thick, which is 0.57mm more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max's bump.

The Pro models could use a new recess
The space taken up by the camera bump on the back of the iPhone will also be about 5% larger in each dimension. These changes are expected to bring improvements to the ultra-wide camera as well. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 14 Pro models could receive significant improvements to the wide-angle camera and updates to the telephoto lens. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the 2022 iPhone Pro models to come with a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, which would be a significant improvement over the current 12-megapixel lens, as well as 8K video recording capability. While the image only shows the back of the devices, the iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to do away with the notch in favor of a combination of a circular and a pill-shaped notch. This change is expected to be limited to the Pro models while the standard iPhone 14 models will continue to rely on the notch. (Photo by Nata Aleks NO WAR / Bigstockphoto)
