We have already read several rumors about the next iPhone generation. Now there are reports that iOS 16 will include the much-discussed Always-On mode.
In its latest edition of the “Power On” newsletter claimed Mark Gurman that iOS 16 will include an always-on mode for the future iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It was originally reported that the iPhone 13 Pro models would receive the feature. Gurman writes:
I've heard that iOS 16 will support an always-on lock screen in the future, which Apple originally planned for the iPhone 13. This would allow the iPhone to significantly reduce the frame rate on the lock screen and quickly display visible information - similar to newer Apple Watches.
Will the iPhone 14 Pro have an always-on mode?
The journalist says he was assured that "the always-on display mode will be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, if the feature ever comes to fruition." To give some context, in December 2020, a report suggested that there could be an always-on mode thanks to the LTPO display. With the iPhone 13 Pro, Apple finally included a 120Hz panel with a refresh rate, but it varies between 10Hz and 120Hz, unlike the Apple Watch, which can also update the refresh rate once per minute. The always-on display feature would also be a nice addition to the iPhone 14 Pro lineup, as a redesign is expected with a new punch-hole and pill cutout instead of the notch. Whether we'll actually see the feature, however, remains to be seen. (Image: Ian Zelebo x Jon Prosser)
