It is expected that the iPhone 14 Pro models will be equipped with an always-on display, allowing users to see information at a glance without having to wake up the screen by tapping on it.
In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter for Bloomberg writes Mark Gurman that this feature will also support iOS 16's new lock screen widgets for weather, fitness and more.
Like the Apple Watch, the iPhone 14 Pro will be able to display widgets for weather, calendar, stocks, activities and other data while the screen remains at low brightness and frame rate. There will also be a setting - similar to the Apple Watch - that prevents sensitive data from being displayed on the lock screen for all to see.
iPhone 14 Pro: Always-on-Display mode can be deactivated
The always-on display will probably also be able to show the time, date and unread notifications. Similar to the Apple Watch, which has had an always-on display mode since the Series 5, it is likely that Apple will give users the option to enable or disable the always-on display on the iPhone 14 Pro models via the Settings app. As mentioned by Gurman, the iPhone 14 Pro's always-on display mode is designed to conserve battery through a combination of lower brightness and lower refresh rate. Apple will likely unveil its iPhone 14 lineup in September as usual, barring any major supply chain disruptions. It is expected that only the Pro and Pro Max models will be equipped with always-on displays. (Image: Ian Zelebo x Jon Prosser)
