After Apple significantly improved the battery life of the iPhone 13, the company could go one step further with the iPhone 14 and improve on it.
According to a report by Taiwan's Economic Daily News, chipmaker TSMC has overtaken Samsung with its advanced manufacturing process and will win all orders for Apple's 5G chips for the upcoming iPhone 14 series. Market analysts expect these 5G chips to use TSMC's 6nm architecture, which was first announced at the TSMC Technology Forum 2021.
iPhone 14: New 5G chip could have a positive effect on battery life
Analysts also predicted that the market focus this year will not be on upgrading 5G chips but will trigger the RF transceiver chips required for 5G or WiFi 6/6E, boosting demand for advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes.
In addition to the improved performance of 5G and WiFi, another important reason for using this new chip in the iPhone 14 is the longer battery life. Also, 5G modems are still very power hungry, so Apple does not recommend users to use 5G all the time. With the upcoming iPhone, this might change. (Photo by Masarik / Bigstockphoto)
