Rumors about the iPhone 13 series are documented almost daily. In addition to reports about the display, a lot has also been written about the camera. And what about the LiDAR scanner? A leaker wants to know the answer.
After leaker DylanDKT has already tweeted about the built-in camera of future MacBooks, he now also wants to share new information about the next iPhone generation experience According to him, the LiDAR scanner will be exclusive to the iPhone 13 Pro lineup. This means that the two cheaper devices will not receive it. Previous rumors surrounding the iPhone 13 have suggested that Apple will add the LiDAR scanner to all four devices this year. Accordingly, DylanDKT contradicts previous sources and confirms recent claims.
LiDAR will only be available in the Pro iPhone models. At the beginning of the year, it seemed as if Apple wanted to equip all iPhone 13/12S models with LiDAR. But for one reason or another, that won't happen this year.
iPhone 13: The ultra-wide-angle lens is also to be improved
The LiDAR scanner was first introduced with the iPad Pro 2020 and then added to the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. As a reminder, using the time-of-flight (TOF) method, the LiDAR calculates the time it takes for light to reach a surface - so it can determine depth information and thus create more precise images. Augmented reality applications particularly benefit from this. Apple mainly uses the LiDAR scanner to improve the AR experience. But the camera component also enables better portrait photos in night mode. Be that as it may, Apple is also rumored to be working on a better ultra-wide-angle lens for the iPhone 13 Pro models. Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro are expected to have a similar design to the iPhone 12, with a new processor, a smaller notch, and expanded 5G support. The new iPhones will most likely be unveiled sometime between September and October. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
