Rumor has it that Apple's upcoming iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models will feature OLED displays with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, which should result in smoother content and scrolling.
Rumors that ProMotion will be used for the first time this year are now regularly documented. The Korean website The Elec reported now that Samsung will be the exclusive supplier of 120Hz displays for the iPhone 13 Pro models:
Meanwhile, the two higher-end iPhones this year that will use RFPCB will have OLED panels with low-temperature polycrystal oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology. LTPO OLED is needed for a 120Hz refresh rate screen. These panels will be supplied exclusively by Samsung Display.
Many sources have claimed that the iPhone 13 Pro models will finally support a 120Hz refresh rate, including Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, display industry analyst Ross Young, leakers Jon Prosser and Max Weinbach, and several others.
Does the iPhone 13 Pro also support the always-on function?
According to reports, 120Hz support is made possible by Apple's use of power-efficient LTPO display technology. LTPO technology would result in a more power-efficient backplane that is responsible for turning individual pixels on and off on the display, enabling a 120Hz refresh rate without a significant impact on battery life. Similar to the current Apple Watch models, LTPO could also enable an always-on display with a visible clock on the iPhone 13 Pro models. iPad Pro models have supported a refresh rate of up to 120Hz since 2017 as part of a feature called ProMotion, which automatically adjusts the refresh rate depending on the content. Based on all the reports, it is now safe to assume that the feature will definitely be released this year. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
