It was recently reported that Apple will postpone its return to mandatory in-person work by at least a month due to rising COVID-19 cases. This will now likely also affect the upcoming iPhone 13 event.
Apple had originally said that all employees would have to return to the office for at least three days a week starting in September. However, in a memo that was recently leaked, the company said it would have to delay that requirement for at least a month. In the latest edition of its "Power On" newsletter writes Gurman said that if Apple had been able to stick to its timeline for returning to in-person work in September, an iPhone 13 live event would have been realistic. However, the iPhone event is now expected to be held virtually again. The latest newsletter edition states:
iPhone 13: No live event but a September announcement
If all Apple employees were back in the office as originally planned and sickness rates were low, it would be plausible to think that Apple would be preparing for its first in-person product event since 2019. Instead, we expect another promotional video on Apple's website and YouTube, as well as a focus on online sales.
If this happens, it would be the second year in a row that a virtual iPhone event has been held. The difference this year, however, is that the iPhone 13 will most likely be announced in September. Last year, the iPhone 12 was delayed until October and November due to the pandemic and the associated supply chain disruptions. (Photo by leungchopan / Bigstockphoto)
