Over the last year, we have been surrounded by numerous rumors that Apple might introduce an iPhone with Face ID and Touch ID 2.0 for the first time in 2020 or 2021. Now a new report is fueling the rumor.
This year, we can expect a total of four iPhone 12 models. Each of these devices will use Face ID. But there is allegedly a possibility that at least one of these models will also receive Touch ID. At least that is what the Economic Daily News claims. According to the report, various manufacturers such as GIS, BOE and Qualcomm are working on fingerprint sensors based on ultrasound technology. This means that Touch ID could be integrated into the display itself and activated at any point on the display surface. The Economic Daily News was one of the first sources in 2019 to report on possible iPhone models in 2020 or 2021 with Touch ID 2.0. These reports were supported by analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo or well-informed news sites such as Bloomberg.
Introduction in 2020 unlikely
The specific issue was ultrasonic fingerprint technology from Qualcomm. But this year, things have been very quiet on the subject. Just recently, the well-informed Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman noted that Touch ID 2.0 will not be on board this year. But the Economic Daily News is now claiming something different. According to the news site, it has learned that at least one of the iPhone 12 Premium models may have the technology after all. According to the report, the final decision has not yet been made. Due to the fact that this rumor has only come from one source so far, the whole thing should be treated with particular skepticism. The latest predictions at least do not indicate anything of the sort in 2020. (Photo by Milkos / Bigstockphoto)
