Given the current situation in China, the question arises: what impact could this have on the iPhone 12 series? According to a DigiTimes report, the coronavirus could delay the start of production of the iPhone 12.
The Taiwanese publication DigiTimes has spoken out in another report about the new iPhone generation. According to the report, Taiwanese suppliers are preparing for the production of the iPhone 9 and iPhone SE 2. While the low-cost iPhone is now on the home stretch, work on the iPhone 12 is said to be progressing mediocrely. According to the report, Apple is no longer sending engineers to China to take part in the Engineering Validation Test - the EVT phase - of the iPhone 12 series. This phase focuses on various hardware components. The DVT phase ("Design Validation Test") follows afterwards. Once both test phases have been completed, development moves on to the PVT phase ("Production Validation Test") and only then does a final picture of the respective device emerge.
Travel to China has already been restricted
Apple announced last month that only "business-critical" trips to China would be permitted. According to DigiTimes, this is no longer the case either. This means that there is a risk that the iPhone 12 series will not go into production in June as planned. The news site claims to have learned this from unnamed sources. Analysts have also suspected something similar. If this does happen, it can be assumed that Apple will still stick to the usual schedule and present the new devices in September, albeit with delivery bottlenecks.
