Many fans expect the iPhone 12 Pro to have a ProMotion display. However, previous reports have been very contradictory. But there is still hope.
The iPhone 12 series is said to have some notable innovations this year. One of these features could also be a 120Hz display. This would at least be reserved for the iPhone 12 Pro models. However, reports on this have been very contradictory so far. Some sources have predicted the introduction of such panels this year, while others spoke of 2021. Now display analysts have Ross Young and the leaker Jon Prosser reported. According to this, there is still a possibility that the iPhone 12 Pro models will have a 120Hz display. However, there are said to be delivery problems that will lead to further delays. For this reason, Apple could also decide against using these panels and go for the well-known 60Hz displays.
ProMotion: Decision on new panels made late
Young explained on Twitter that Apple is having supply chain issues with sourcing 120Hz display driver ICs for the iPhone 12 Pro, even though it can get the corresponding 120Hz panels. Apple will therefore have to delay the launch of the iPhone 12 Pro to wait for the right driver ICs or ship the iPhone 12 Pro without a 120Hz display – to avoid this delay. In this case, the Pursue to the standard 60Hz displays. According to Young, the reason for this delay is a change of plan. Apparently, the use of the new displays was not planned from the beginning. The decision was made quite late, which is why procurement is now more difficult. Accordingly, the delay could be longer than expected if Apple decides against the well-known 60Hz displays. The Cupertino-based company already announced in July delays confirmed – but no reason was given.
Fans hope for ProMotion technology
In addition to Young, Prosser also has interesting things to report. According to his sources, Apple is still conducting internal tests with ProMotion panels. However, an iPhone 12 Pro Max will be used for this. Since many iPhone fans want a ProMotion display, Apple could actually accept the delay and use one in the iPhone 12 Pro. Basically, no final decision has been made yet. So we can continue to hope - says Prosser. The ProMotion technology on the iPad Pro is able to dynamically adapt the display to the movement of content, resulting in smoother scrolling, smoother movements and improved responsiveness. The frame rate changes depending on the content on the screen, thus saving battery life. The use of this technology in the iPhone should certainly benefit sales of the new generation. So the whole thing remains exciting. (Image: svetapple.sk)
