Apple is also said to be planning three new iPhone models next year. Two of the devices could appear with a thinner display.
Rumor has it that a new iPhone design is coming next year. The new generation could be based on the look of the old iPhone 4. The redesign will also result in a change in the display diagonal. It has already been reported several times that the two premium models could appear in sizes 5.4 and 6.7 inches. Now the Korean ETNews claims to have learned that Apple is planning to use a Samsung technology called "Y-OCTA". This would accommodate the touch module directly in the OLED panel, which is why an additional layer would no longer be necessary. The use of this technology would result in an overall thinner display - production costs could also be reduced with "Y-OCTA". According to ETNews, however, the technology is only planned for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 11 successor would therefore be left out.
iPhone 2020 with many innovations
It remains unclear whether this will actually make the iPhones thinner or whether Apple wants to use the space gained elsewhere. A thicker battery, for example, would be conceivable. If the rumor mill is right, 2020 could be an interesting year for the iPhone. According to reports, in addition to a new design (based on the iPhone 4), a 3D camera, 5G support and more are to come. The devices could also have 6 GB of RAM for the first time. Speculation also suggests the return of Touch ID. According to reports, Apple is planning an iPhone with Face ID and Touch ID - the latter under the display. But this version could not be presented until 2021. (Photo by vsamarkina / Bigstockphoto)
