Apple is expected to introduce four new twelfth-generation iPhone models this fall. Now new details about the A14 chip and AiP technology have emerged.
The Taiwanese news site DigiTimes claims to have learned new information regarding the iPhone 12. According to this, mass production of the new A14 chip is set to start in April. The heart of the iPhone will continue to be manufactured exclusively by TSMC - according to DigiTimes. If the information is correct, production of the new A-series chips would be on schedule. In a second article, DigiTimes discusses AiP technology (Antenna in Package). The new technology is set to be used in both the iPhone 12 and the upcoming iPad Pro. The report states:
Leading backend house ASE Technology has received SiP orders for Apple Watch and for 4G LTE wireless communication modules for the iPhone SE2 and is likely to join the supply chain for new AirPod models, sources said.
ASE Technology is also expected to receive orders for packaging AiP (antenna in package) modules for 5G iPhones and iPads using its FC_AiP technology during 2020, the sources said.
The special thing about AiP technology is the ability to integrate the antenna into the RFIC chip (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit). Until now, these modules were separated from each other. By combining both components, the overall size can be reduced and more space can be saved. In addition, the transmission loss is reduced to improve the signal. (Photo by Foto-event / Bigstockphoto)
