We have already read several rumors that Apple is working on a new type of accessory for the iPhone 12 series. The latest iOS 14.5 beta even has the whole thing confirmedNow, however, Bloomberg has published a report that provides further details. is called it in it:
Apple has been developing the accessory for at least a year. It is expected to appear in the months after the iPhone 12 series is released, according to people familiar with the product. The iPhone 12 models were introduced in October.
The battery pack would attach to the back of the iPhone 12 using the MagSafe system that all new phones use for charging and pairing with other accessories like cases and wallets. Some prototypes of the battery pack have a white rubber exterior because the product is not yet public.
iPhone 12 MagSafe battery pack: Development problems
The new accessory would differ from Apple's battery packs for previous iPhones in that it would only provide additional battery life and not serve as a full-fledged protective case. Some MagSafe users have criticized the strength of the magnets used by Apple, finding them too weak and unable to hold MagSafe accessories such as Apple's leather wallet. Reports have subsequently been documented that Apple is planning to upgrade the battery pack for the upcoming one. However, development progress has been hampered due to software issues. One example cited was that the iPhone would indicate overheating when using this new accessory, even though it is not. Based on this hurdle, Gurman stated that the launch could be delayed. However, it is not impossible that Apple will scrap the project entirely if the problems persist. (Photo by ms_pics_and_more / Bigstockphoto)
