The iPhone 12 and the Pro version are available from todayTo mark the debut, Apple has started distributing a new device that allows the display to be replaced on the iPhone 12.
As the US blog MacRumors reported, Apple has developed a new device to make replacing an iPhone 12 display easier. To open iPhone 12 models, technicians must slide the device into a special tray and then place the tray in the high-temperature holder for two minutes to heat up the adhesive under the display. Once the adhesive has loosened, technicians can remove the display by attaching a suction cup to the top of the device. It is unclear why Apple requires the use of heat to remove the display on the iPhone 12 models. However, it is likely that it has something to do with the new design and the flat and flush edges. Due to this new design, the iPhone 12 series has received significantly better water resistance to IP68. This means that the devices can "survive" up to a depth of six meters - according to Apple.
iPhone 12: New rules for display replacement?
For this reason, a much stronger adhesive could be used, which requires the new tool. Apple's standard tool for removing the display on older iPhones is a relatively simple suction cup that does not require heat. However, since there are already a few teardown videos, it can be assumed that the devices can be opened without the new device. But the question is, of course, will this cause damage? Kyle Wiens, founder of iFixit, has already criticized the whole thing and explained the following to MacRumors:
"iPhone owners should have the ability to repair their own phones. If the new iPhone design requires a device to repair it, Apple should sell it to its customers."

The new repair device is currently being delivered to Apple Stores and authorized service partners. This means that anyone who needs a display replacement and wants to be on the safe side should definitely go to Apple or a service partner. Apart from that, only original spare parts are used there.
