Last month, Korean website The Elec reportedthat Apple plans to introduce new iPad Pro models with OLED displays in the second half of 2021. The panels are to be developed by Samsung and LG. Barclays analysts have now contradicted this.
Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis, Thomas O'Malley, Tim Long and their colleagues have already made a forecast for the iPhone 2021 series worked out. Details of Apple's tablet plans were also shared. Based on discussions with Apple's suppliers, they have stated that an iPad with OLED technology is not expected before 2022. The time frame mentioned by Barclays certainly sounds more reasonable. Current rumors suggest that Apple plans to release at least one iPad Pro model with mini-LED backlighting in the first half of 2021.
iPad Pro: Update in spring 2021?
Apart from that, it would be somewhat unusual if Apple changed the display of a device updated. Apple already uses OLED displays in the higher-end iPhone devices and all Apple Watch models. These offer many advantages over LCDs such as higher brightness, improved contrast, higher energy efficiency, wider viewing angles and more. The iPad series, on the other hand, has not been considered so far. The iPad Pro was last refreshed in March. However, it was only a minor updateAs always, it remains to be seen whether Apple has actually planned a major update in spring 2021. (Photo by Denis Rozhnovsky / Bigstockphoto)
