Apple is developing two brand new iPad Pro models in 11.1-inch and 13-inch sizes with OLED technology, which are scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2024.
Well-known display analyst Ross Young has previously spoken of new iPad Pro models with OLED displays planned for 2024. But this is the first time we've heard of updated 11.1- and 13-inch display sizes (via MacRumors). Since larger 11.1- and 13-inch screens are planned for the OLED iPad Pro models, it could be that the bezels will be slimmed down rather than changing the size of the device overall. Apple currently sells a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display and an 11-inch iPad Pro with a traditional LCD display, as the mini-LED display is still reserved for the higher-end iPad Pro model. With the 2024 update, Apple could equip the two iPad Pro models equally again, which should please many professional users who prefer the smaller model. Apple refreshed the 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with the M2 chip in October 2022, so it would be no surprise if the next update doesn't come until 2024.
iPad Pro 7 to be released in spring 2024
It is not yet clear whether there will be an interim update before switching to OLED. However, the fact is that Apple has no plans to release an 11-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED and will instead switch directly to OLED for the smaller tablet. Other sources such as The Elec and DigiTimes have confirmed that Apple is developing OLED panels for larger devices such as iPads and MacBook models and the technology is expected to be ready in 2024. Young had previously said that Apple would launch a 14.1-inch iPad Pro in 2023. But he revised that today and said that such a device is no longer in the works. Larger iPads are still a possibility for the future, however. The Information believes that Apple is developing a 16-inch iPad while Bloomberg has already confirmed Apple's interest in larger iPads.
