Rumors about a new iPad Pro generation have been with us for months. Contrary to expectations, the lineup was already subjected to a small update at the beginning of 2020. Now there are reports about the 5th generation.
The Korean news site ETNews reportedthat LG will supply Apple with MiniLED displays for new iPad models that are due to be released in the first quarter of 2021. Mass production of these new panels is expected to start by the end of the year. The new display technology offers many advantages over OLED panels and at the same time allows for thinner product designs. Unlike OLED screens, MiniLEDs cannot burn in. In addition, the brightness and contrast ratio are significantly better than OLEDs. Efficiency also plays a major role. Rumors that Apple is working on an iPad Pro with the said screen technology were first documented in 2019. Anonymous leaker L0vetodream also announced this summer that the devices would be launched in early 2021. At the time, he gave further details. The new iPad Pro series will have 5G connectivity, the A14X chip and more. However, it remains unclear whether the MiniLED device will be released in two sizes as before or just one size this time.
In addition to the iPad Pro, new iMac and MacBook models are also expected
So far, there has only been talk of a 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Due to the MiniLED integration, a change in design is also to be expected. But there are no concrete details on this so far. Apple last updated the iPad Pro in March 2020. This was a relatively minor update. The device was given the A12Z chip, which is essentially the A12X chip. The difference is that the 2020 version has one more GPU core. In addition to the upgraded processor, a triple camera with LiDAR scanner has also been integrated. Apart from the iPad Pro 2021, future iMac and MacBook devices will also feature MiniLED technology. According to ETNews, the launch of these models is expected as early as next year.
