According to a new Korean report, more details about the camera of the iPad Pro 2020 model have emerged – and a launch date may already be set.
According to recent Bloomberg information, this year’s fourth generation iPad Pro will be released in autumn 2019 – in addition to a performance update, the professional tablet will be equipped with the same triple camera like the iPhone 11. Entries in the EEC database confirm that Apple has new devices in the pipeline. So far so good – but what can we expect from next year’s iPad Pro? The Korean website The Elec claims to have learned that the iPad Pro 2020 will have a 3D camera, which is already known from the iPhone 2020 As a reminder: The camera technology in question is said to use so-called Time-of-Flight technology. This technology is similar in principle to the infrared TrueDepth camera system that can be found on the front of the iPhone today and enables facial recognition. Adding a 3D sensor system to the rear camera would make it possible to take detailed 3D photos. This would also open up new augmented reality possibilities. Rumors that such a camera will also be included in the iPad Pro next year are not new - but the launch date is causing a lot of confusion. According to The Elec, the sensors of the 3D module are said to come from the Korean contract manufacturer Derkwoo Electronics and will go into series production at the end of this year.
Is Apple's roadmap for the iPad Pro changing?
According to this, Apple would have planned to present the device in March 2020 - this would not correspond to Apple's update schedule for the Pro tablets, especially since an update is expected as early as October this year. It is currently suspected that The Elec could be right with its technology forecast, as renowned sources such as star analyst Mind-Chi Kuo have already made similar claims - only the time frame is likely to be rather unrealistic. It should also not go unmentioned that it is rather rare for an iPad to be given new and remarkable features before the iPhone.
One exception to this is the introduction of LTE on the iPad 3 in 2012 – before the iPhone 5 was launched. The second exception is the iPad with the A5 chip. Of course, Apple could have completely changed its plans and is planning an iPad Pro update in spring 2020. But this would mean that three particularly reliable sources would have completely wrong information for the first time. The alternative scenario – Apple updates the professional tablet in autumn 2019 and autumn 2020 – in both updates the camera will be upgraded. A step that many observers consider to be more realistic – including us. You can find out which products are expected this autumn in our Summary read it.
