Rumors suggest that iOS 17 will introduce a new experience for Apple Maps by integrating turn-by-turn directions into the lock screen without taking over the screen. An anonymous Twitter account, Analyst941, claims to have inside information indicating that the new feature will be available on "all iPhones."
Apple Maps has had some challenges in the past, but the company has been continuously making improvements to improve functionality. Adding turn-by-turn directions to the lock screen could be a welcome addition, as it allows users to follow the route without constantly unlocking the phone. Analyst941, a Twitter account, who supposedly has inside information, has claimed that iOS 17 will introduce a new feature that will integrate turn-by-turn directions into the lock screen. In iOS 16, when the real-time routing feature is enabled and the iPhone is locked, the Maps app takes over the screen and all other elements of the lock screen are hidden.
iOS 17 to integrate detailed turn-by-turn directions into the lock screen
According to Analyst941, the new feature in iOS 17 will take up the map directions including the visual live map data in a part of the lock screen while the app notifications and the camera and flashlight buttons will remain at the bottom of the screen. It is important to note that Analyst941 has also made other claims about iOS 17 that have not been confirmed yet. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has expressed doubts about Analyst941's claims and considers some of the information to be inaccurate. It remains to be seen whether the rumor about the new Apple Maps feature in iOS 17 is true. If it turns out to be true, it could be a welcome addition for the users who want to track the route without constantly unlocking the phone. Apple is expected to unveil iOS 17 and other updates at the WWDC keynote on June 05, so we will soon find out whether the rumor is true or not. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
