Apple is expected to release the first public beta of iOS 16 for the iPhone this week, allowing anyone to try out the software update for free.
In a tweet last month said Mark Gurman that the iOS 16 public beta will be released the week of July 11. Gurman said the public beta is expected to coincide with the third developer beta of iOS 16, which was deployed last week. It remains unclear what day of the week the iOS 16 public beta will be released. Considering that reviews of the new MacBook Air are expected to be released on Thursday, it's possible that Apple will choose to deploy the iOS 16 public beta no later than Wednesday.
iOS 16 Public Beta: iPhone 8 or newer is required
Last year, the public beta of iOS 15 was released on a Wednesday. The beta version of iOS 16 is relatively stable, but it is still a beta version, so errors, incompatible apps, reduced battery life and other problems can occur. So you should think carefully about the whole thing and, ideally, use a second device for the test. iOS 16 is compatible with the iPhone 8 and newer models. The software update, which is due to be released to all users in September, introduces a customizable lock screen, the ability to edit or cancel iMessages and many other new features.
